I never truly understood why people said they needed to see someone who looked like them to feel welcome until I attended a conference full of CEOs. I was invited to present, yet standing there, I felt like I didn’t belong. I don’t know if seeing someone who looked like me would have changed that feeling, but at least I wouldn’t have felt so alone.

Maybe the most important thing in life isn’t to feel loved, but to not feel alone. To know that there are people who would stand with you no matter what.

That’s why I’m here, to remind you that you’re not alone. Someone has been where you are. Of course, no one can live your life or see through your eyes, but there are people who will understand and help if you reach out. And when you can’t find them yet, stories can fill that gap because nothing prepares us for the future like a story.
